Solly Swim School was originally set up by John and Jean Solly in 1976 and is now run by their Granddaughter Alex. Alex quickly realised from a young age a true passion for swimming and progressed to a competitive club swimmer. She now has over 16 years swimming teaching experience and has a true love for the water and teaching children to flourish into great swimmers whilst ensuring they have a fun and enjoyable experience.
Our swimming sessions are run from Hounsdown Secondary School in Totton.
All of our sessions are taught in exceptionally small classes, which never exceeds 3 swimmers per instructor. All our instructors are experienced friendly ASA or STA qualified swimming teachers. In the beginner classes we also have trained helpers in the water to assist the swimmer. We run all our lessons with RLSS qualified pool lifeguards, and our courses are spread over 12 week terms working within the schools timetable.
We follow the National Plan for Teaching Swimming as part of our teaching programme.
The National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) is a nationally recognised template for learn-to-swim lesson providers to follow and therefore ensure that the structure and quality of their swimming lessons creates good competent swimmers.
The Plan, recognised by Ofsted, takes pupils through 8 progressive phases from adult and child to pre competitive swimming. The emphasis within the NPTS is on quality of swimming strokes and not simply on the distance that can be swum. Through repetition, revision and consolidation, pupils are encouraged to develop a multi skilled approach to swimming.
As not all swimmers want to become competitive swimmers, the NPTS gives pupils the opportunity to develop skills from all swimming disciplines: swimming, diving, synchro, water polo and lifesaving, so keeping their interest within the sport.
All teachers are Qualified ASA or STA and fully CRB checked. All lessons run with a RLSS lifeguard. Solly Swim School is a full ASA Member.
