What should my child wear in the pool?
All children should wear appropriate swimwear in the pool; swim caps and goggles are personal choice.
What should I bring for my child?
We provide all swimming equipment that will be used for your child’s lesson.
What if my child has never been in the water before?
All our teachers are very experienced with dealing with nervous children and they will know how to deal with the children
How do I enroll my child onto lessons?
Please contact us via telephone or email and you will be booked onto the next course. If the class is full you will be offered an alternative or to go on the waiting list.
If I am placed on the waiting list, how long can I expect to wait?
The waiting list can vary in length and is also dependent on the ability of the child.
What age can my child begin swimming lessons?
Solly Swim School takes children from the age of 3 ½.
When are the lessons?
Please refer to our lesson time’s pages to find a course suitable for you and your child. If you cannot find what you are looking for please call the office.
How long does a lesson last for?
30 minutes is the length of each lesson.
How much will lessons cost?
Our lessons are paid termly and each session equates to £8.95 per 30-minute session. If a child joins mid-way through a course they will pay the remainder of the course.
How many children are in each class?
All our classes run with a maximum of 3 children per instructor. *
Who are your swimming instructors?
We have a number of excellent instructors, which teach at various locations. All teachers are CRB checked and highly qualified to ASA and STA standard Levels 1 and 2, in teaching swimming. All teachers will work with your children and assess their ability to achieve their best.
Am I able to watch the lessons?
As poolside space is limited at Hounsdown School we are restricted to the number of spectators allowed on poolside, you will be able to watch your child swim every other week, this ensures a fair rota system for every parent. Please get your child changed and take them through to the poolside. After the swim session all children will go through to the showers where the non-spectating parents can collect their children Please note – there is a strict ban of any photography at any of the pools.
What Swimming Awards can I expect my child to get?
Solly Swim School follows the ‘National Plan Awards’. After your child has been assessed at a level, they will be awarded a badge and certificate. Please be aware, your child will only pass the level if they have completed all of the skills to the correct standard, determined by their teacher. We also offer distance badges, which ensures that the swimmers stamina improves and is very exciting for the swimmer to see how far they can swim!
How do I re-enroll onto the next course?
Three to fours weeks prior to the end of the current course you will be contacted asking whether you want to re-enroll. To keep your place on the course, then full payment for the next course is required to reserve your space. Failure to re-enroll within the deadline period may result in being removed from the next course and your place being taken by another child.
What if I the miss the payment date?
If you miss the date, please contact Solly Swim School as soon as possible. After the pay by date, we fill the lessons with the children on the waiting list. If your space is still available, you just need to pay. If your space has gone, we will try to find you a suitable alternative. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to find you a suitable class, so please make sure you pay on time.
What if my child misses a lesson due to sickness?
We do not offer refunds or catch up lessons for general sickness, however if it is long term please call the office to discuss the situation and we will try to be accommodating.
* More swimmers will attend the club session and the cost of our club sessions is £5.60 per 30-minute session.
